Ben S Pitkeathly Multimedia Sports Journalist

Who Am I?

Born an Aberdonian but raised a Cumbrian.

I am a third-year Sports Journalism Student at the University of Central Lancashire.

My Sports Journalism journey began during the COVID pandemic, aged 17, covering Carlisle United for TheFootballFansView writing regular match reports.

I joined Prost International in January 2021, where I quickly rose to the role of Editor and became DataCo accredited, covering games at every level of the EFL during the 2021/22 season.

The opportunity to speak on BBC Radio Cumbria's Carlisle United Fans Panel arose in 2021, and I contributed multiple times over the campaign.

My time at Prost ended in 2022, and I moved on to write for The72, where I perfected my SEO writing skills to produce short news articles about the EFL.

In 2022, the opportunity to vary my experience appeared when I took up a role covering local Rugby Union club Preston Grasshoppers for the Rugby Paper and Lancashire Post, as well as aiding the club with their social media.

I have also been the Carlisle United researcher for Football Manager since the summer of 2023.

FWA Hugh McIlvanney Male Student Football Writer of the Year 2023 nomination

FWA: “To make the shortlist is some achievement given the high standards shown.”

In 2023, I was shortlisted for the FWA Hugh McIlvanney Male Student Football Writer of the Year award. This saw me recognised as one of the top 10 male Student Football writers in the UK.
